Hygiene and Personal Care

Nonwoven Solutions for the Hygiene and Personal Care Industry

As Microfiber Tekstil, we blend innovative solutions with current technology in the hygiene sector to meet the demands of baby diaper, sanitary pad, adult incontinence diaper, and bed protector manufacturers at the highest level.

Nonwoven fabrics used in hygiene products are critical components that come into direct contact with the end user. From the topsheet layer that touches the skin to the backsheet layer that provides a liquid barrier, and from the core wrap surrounding the absorbent core to the leg cuff barrier, each component requires different technical specifications. Our OekoTex certified PP Spunbond fabrics fully meet these requirements with their soft touch, homogeneous surface distribution, and high absorption capacity.

Hygiene Product Components

Each hygiene product consists of multiple nonwoven layers with different functions.

The hygiene sector holds the largest share in global nonwoven fabric consumption. In baby diaper production, more than 5 different nonwoven layers are used in a single product, and each has different basis weight, touch, liquid permeability, and mechanical strength.

Soft-touch fabrics treated with hydrophilic agents in the topsheet layer ensure the rapid transfer of liquid to the absorbent core. In the backsheet layer, hydrophobic fabrics prevent liquid leakage. High elasticity and liquid retention capacity are prioritized in leg cuff barriers. Fabrics used as core wrap allow liquid passage while preventing the absorbent core from disintegrating. We produce all these layers with various basis weight, application, and width options.

Thanks to our state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and inline camera inspection system, we fully meet the strict quality standards required by the hygiene sector in every production batch.

Areas of Use

Baby diapers (topsheet, backsheet, leg cuff, core wrap, dusting layer), feminine sanitary pads, adult incontinence products, bed protector sheets, underpads, fluff pulp carrier layers.

Frequently Asked Questions

01. What is the difference between topsheet and backsheet?

The topsheet is the top surface of the hygiene product that touches the skin; it is hydrophilically treated to quickly transfer liquid to the absorbent core and provide a dry feeling on the surface. The backsheet is the bottom surface of the product; it is a barrier layer with hydrophobic properties that prevents liquid from leaking out. The two layers complement each other to form the core function of the hygiene product.

The basis weights used in baby diaper components vary according to the layer. Ranges of 10–15 gsm for the topsheet, 12–20 gsm for the backsheet, 15–22 gsm for the leg cuff barrier, and 10–16 gsm for the core wrap are generally preferred. Basis weight optimization can be performed with our technical team according to specific project requirements.

A soft touch is achieved through a combination of fine denier filament usage, special calender pattern selection, and finishing applications. Our fabrics, which offer high opacity and a silky feel even at low basis weights, meet the requirements of premium-class hygiene products. Our OekoTex certificate guarantees the skin safety of these fabrics.
